Nriapia snapped up by Why Digital Media for strategic marketing role

Why Digital Media has appointed Chris Nriapia as its Digital Marketing Director to lead on strategic online marketing for its growing portfolio of clients. Chris joins the Why Digital Media board from his position as Big Screen Manager for West Yorkshire at the BBC where his role included UK-wide duties as part of the BBC Big Screen Management Team.

Working in partnership with local and national sponsors, Chris has been responsible for screening and marketing a wide variety of Big Screen city centre events within Leeds and Bradford. These events include the European and World Cup football championships, Wimbledon, Royal Opera House relays, Last Night of the Proms and the London 2012 ‘UK Live Sites’ Olympics celebrations.

Chris has also been instrumental in providing the Big Screen as a platform for artists, film makers, groups and organisations to showcase their work within the heart of city centres. This has allowed over one thousand groups across West Yorkshire to profile what they do over a seven year period.

Chris commented on his appointment and said “I’ve learnt some fantastic things and met some great people at the BBC, but felt that I needed a new challenge after the London 2012 Olympics. After meeting the Why team and listening to their future plans, I just knew I had to be part of it. Some of the digital and interactive projects that are in the pipeline really are pushing boundaries and it’s a great feeling to know that I can be part of Why Digital Media’s development.”

In addition to over 15 years of marketing and public relations experience, Chris is a keen academic who has already completed a number of degrees covering marketing and interactive gaming. He is currently studying for his Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Diploma in Marketing.

Why Digital Media’s Managing Director, Lee Fella commented on this appointment and said “We’ve wanted someone to lead on the company’s digital strategy for some time now and when we heard Chris might be available we knew he was our man. He comes with great leadership and management skills mixed in with a creative outlook on business making him the perfect addition to our already very talented team.”

Chris is a confident public speaker with a keen interest in social media and gaming. He lives in North Leeds with his wife Jane and two children Harvey and Archie with his teenage daughter Bailey living at university. He is also known for his rubbish jokes and is a bit of a practical joker.
